CBHSPPU Forming a Past Pupils Union

FORMING A PAST PUPILS UNION

The initial way forward – forming a committee:

Before a Past Pupils Union can formally begin, a committee needs to be formed, to represent and make decisions on behalf of past pupils.

This committee will need to set up all structures in terms of constitutions, mission statements and goals. It will organise the running of all social and fundraising events, reunions and much more. This is a commitment to be undertaken by dedicated individuals.

The kinds of skills needed for these committee members are;
Secretarial – create a database and work with Communication Officer
Treasurer
Legal
Communication – website, newsletter, Facebook, Twitter, sms
Functions/events organising
Fundraising – raffles
Clubs – waterpolo/running/cycling
Sports days – summer and winter
Clothing

Members of the committee can come from all class year groups that are willing to contribute time to forming a Past Pupils Union.

People willing to join this committee should be willing to give up time and commit to the filling in of missing parts of our history and being a vital part of our future – Camps Bay High School's past pupils!

Please e-mail the following to cbhsppu@gmail.com if you are interested in finding out more about this request or to offer your services and expertise in becoming a committee member:

What is the goal/aim of the Past Pupils Union?

Camps Bay High School has helped to develop, empower and guide so many of us to where we are today. The lessons learned, friendships made and good times all went perhaps unnoticed then, now come to life when we reunite with our fellow past pupils over a meal, drink or just in passing.

The two main objectives for the Past Pupils Union are:

     • To promote fellowship and interaction amongst Past Pupils, and

     • To support Camps Bay High School.

Fellowship and interaction are promoted through regular communication through a website and newsletters to keep members well informed of school and Past Pupil activities; social and sporting gatherings; class reunions and dinners.

The benefits which flow from these activities range from maintaining friendships formed at school for life, to business partnerships and general business networking.

Support is given by attending academic, cultural and sports events and showing a real interest in our school and its achievements through pupils who excel.

In the current environment where State financial support for capital improvements and extensions is negligible, the Past Pupils Union has a vital support role to play in fundraising projects. Success in this regard means our school will remain a centre of educational excellence and will continue to produce outstanding leaders across the spectrum of business, cultural, sport and humanitarian activities.

Past Pupils also make contributions to Camps Bay High School by serving on various committees and by helping the three Camps Bay Schools in a variety of other ways such as assisting with sports coaching and refereeing and as guest speakers at school ceremonies.

The Past Pupils Union will ensure that the traditions are not lost over time and will allow you, the past pupil, to have a connection with your school, teachers and old friends.

CBHSPPU Big Changes at CBHS - Aug '13

Big Changes Over The Past Five Years:

Camps Bay High School's management, consisting of teachers and governors, has achieved some enormous feats over the past few years.

Below are some of the major events and infrastructural upgrades that have happened to our school since our Centenary celebrations.

Gymnasium – 2007
  • Camps Bay High School is now fortunate enough to boast a fully equipped gym. This gym is used for sports teams, gym classes during the school day and is available for after-school use.

School Hall (Stage, Sound Box, Ceiling) – 2012
  • With the School Hall being used for assemblies, award ceremonies and general meetings, there was a definite need for an upgrade to this venue. However, the most positive changes have been made to our successful Dance Department's facilities, where our students can now perform with a new lease on life and can compete at a much higher level.

Entrance – 2010
  • The SGB (School Governing Body) has made massive changes and upgrades to the general appearance of our school and its corridors, with the addition of plants and year photographs in the passage. No area of our school can match our main entrance, which now has some amazing pictures of Camps Bay, a statue presented by the class of 2012 and our ‘Friends of Camps Bay’ and ‘Achievers' Wall’.

White Boards – 2009
  • All our classrooms have been equipped with interactive white boards or video projectors to improve our use of technology. Gone are the chalk boards of old. Using computers and interactive projection screens, teaching has reached new heights with visuals and videos. This has made for a much more interesting and interactive mode of teaching and learning.

Cultural Venue – 2013
  • With high calibre productions taking place such as, "Little Shop of Horrors", "Fame" and many more, combined with the growth and great success of Drama as a subject, a new Cultural Venue was inevitable. This will also provide our Music Department with a versatile venue for intimate performances as well as bigger concerts for our bands, marimbas and ensembles.
